A 1965 Mid-Century Modern Home That Still Feels Timeless

Some homes are beautiful because they're big, expensive, and filled with all the latest amenities. Others stand out for an entirely different reason.

This 1965 mid-century modern home in Trousdale Estates, Beverly Hills, is one of those homes.

Designed by architect Rex Lotery, this architectural gem was built with a beautiful combination of redwood, glass, and stone. It was also featured in Architectural Digest, a fitting recognition for a home whose design has stood the test of time.

I had the opportunity to walk through this home a couple of years ago, and it was one of those places that stayed with me long after I left.

Mid-Century Architecture with Warmth and Character

What immediately caught my attention was the warmth of the home. The rich wood, expansive glass, natural stone, and dramatic ceiling heights created an atmosphere that felt open without being overwhelming.

The architecture allows the interior spaces to flow naturally from one room to the next. Large windows bring in natural light and create a connection between the home and its surrounding landscape.

The sunken living room, with its impressive two-story ceiling and expansive views, is a beautiful example of the home's thoughtful design.

Thoughtful Interior Details

Throughout the home, the materials and architectural details work together beautifully.

The library and office, with its built-in shelving and private patio, is one of my favorite spaces. It feels like a room you could easily spend an entire afternoon in.

The primary bathroom is another standout. Marble, beautiful stonework, a freestanding stone tub, and a spacious vanity give the room a spa-like feel. There's even a small sauna tucked inside.

It's the kind of space where the details make all the difference.

Indoor Outdoor Living

The backyard continues the home's architectural story.

The swimming pool, mature landscaping, courtyard, and outdoor entertaining areas connect naturally with the interior spaces. The large expanses of glass make the outdoors feel like an extension of the home.

A Home That Got the Details Right

I've toured many beautiful homes, including some that are considerably larger and more elaborate. But this one reminded me that great design isn't necessarily about having the most square footage or the longest list of amenities.

It's about proportion, materials, natural light, and how a space makes you feel.

Nearly 60 years after it was built, this home still feels relevant. The architecture is distinctive without being excessive, and the spaces feel comfortable and livable.

It's a reminder that thoughtful design really does stand the test of time.
